happy royal weekend!

My lovelies, what are you up to this weekend? Are you going to watch the Royal Wedding today? In case you want to but don't have access to a TV while the beautiful bride walks down the aisle at Westminster Abbey, just visit youtube, they will broadcast the ceremony live to the internet.

agree with others?

My lovelies, here's a question: Are you honest to your friends and colleagues? I mean, always? Do you tell them your opinion even if you know they might get offended? And; do you tell what you think without them asking? Just wondering.

to do list

How do you handle work overload, dear readers? I've a great deal of work ahead of me. Funny thing: I always make to-do lists with at least two things I've already done listed on top. Just for the satisfaction of crossing them off right afterwards. My way to motivate myself. Any other motivation tips out there?

girls girls girls

Bunch of girls. Talking loud at a dinner table. Eating from each others plate. Ordering drinks one after another. Dancing the night away. Laughing. Visiting bathrooms. Taking care.
Best times.

surfwise

Ever since I've spent some months in Southern California I love to watch surfers do their turns and rides. I feel free by looking at them. I even enjoy surfing myself: being a beginner, not capable of standing very long on my board, only managing turns to my right and just getting to surf every other year, if at all.

Yesterday I watched Surfwise. The documentary tells the story of the Paskowitzs, who drove their nine (!) children around in a camper - making them surf all day long. Doesn't that sound like one world of freedom to you? A father that basically grew up on the beach, a large family, water and waves. One of the most precious documentaries I've seen so far. What are your favorite documentaries? Do you like to watch any?

tulip love

Dear tulip,
you are lovely. Strolling through a market in spring and spotting you and your friends all wrapped up in good old paper, makes me always want to buy you and your companions. Which I often do. Let's face it: you will never be a plenteous and romantic peony. But I quite love to look at you while I type. You look lovely on our old office table. So clean and clear - and you never drink too much. I think our friendship might be a long and good one.
Love, S.

have a great weekend!

How has your wee been so far, dear readers? I hope yours was much nicer than mine. This picture represents quite good what I felt like most of the time for the last five days; trapped. But sometimes these exact situations make us realize what we have to go after.

Dolls, have a great weekend with loads of space and free time! I will enjoy the company of my favorite people in the world. Family is always family, right?!

the anatomy of a cupcake

Allen Hemberger and Sarah Wilson created "the anatomy of a cupcake" chart as a birthday present. They now sell it as poster - how sweet would it look in a kitchen?!

hiding in Paris

Dear work, f%*# o*#%! I am leaving - going to hide, in Hidden Hotel. This little boutique hotel is located just behind l'Arc de Triomphe in Paris and looks so comfy and easy that I want to escape and move in. Double sigh, no, wait; tripple sigh.

Loving the jigsaw collection. Layed-back looks with a cool twist.

obsessions

It’s the time of the year where I start obsessing over spring and summer and all that comes with these two marvelous seasons. Right now some serious obsessions include:

  • Watching movies outdoors
  • Short skirts and dresses
  • A pretty island I’ll go to with hub (can't wait)

  • Lambretta rides
  • Bathing in the lake after work
  • Walking around for no reason but in company of Diana F
  • Road Trips
  • Mild summer nights spent outside
  • Biking by the lake

Do you want me to go on? I could, like forever.

invictus

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

happy weekend!

Happy weekend dolls! What are you up to? This week has been so crazy (still is) and I just long for some quiet, which I won't get. So much going on, like it and dislike it at the same time. Enjoy and get some sunshine!

books, books, books

Tina Fey's Bossypant was just released yesterday - I just ordered a copy. I am curious to dig into her hilarious anecdotes of being a working mum in the entertainment business. The reviews are grand so I hope to have it in the mail soon!

But Simon Beckett's "The Calling of the Grave" is my companion, just started to read it a few days ago. I am probably one of millions of Simon Beckett fans that read his bestsellers featuring his forensic anthropolgist Dr. Hunter and have read "The Chemistry of Death", "Written in Bone" and "Whispers of the Dead" in one go.

And last but not least a book I'd recommend dear readers :) if you like sarcastic writers: "The Slap" from Australian author Christos Tsiolkas. Tsiolkas has a raw style and writes liberally about suburban everyday life and it's complex people in a shocking, real and sarcastic way.

take risks

Going Solo. from Studio Botes on Vimeo.

As a designer or other kind of entrepreneur you might appreciate this video – especially if you are thinking about leaving your stable 9 to 5 job to go your own way, but not only.

It’s been some time now I keep talking with buddies who share the dream of having and developing a big idea . And even though nothing changed so far, I find it very inspiring: philosophizing away, discussing ideas and finding they are not that good (yet?). The whole thinking process itself is quite fascinating.

Enjoy a bit of motivation on your Tuesday morning.

hangover

Mornin' dolls - hope you had a great weekend! We did, indeed, by celebrating G's birthday with some sweet people (who were very creative by the way!).

I have to admit: the older I get, the more difficult I find it to recover from a night partying. So I thought you might like to read about a few tips on how to handle a hangover. If you never drink too much; hurray! but if you do:

  • a bottle of water and Alkaseltzer before going to bed (or alternatively during the night when you can't sleep because the room goes round)
  • a nutritious breakfast consisting of plant foods, that will help reduce the oxidative stress alcohol causes
  • ginger tea to ease nausea
  • tomato juice, or...
  • ...Bloody Marys, uhm does that really help?
  • Physical activity will shake off listlessness by producing serotonin

What are your hangover remedies? Does anything really work?

happy birthday G!

Happy 30th birthday! Love you to pieces, handsome husband! :) For giving great advice, cooking up the most delicious pasta, being such a clown and making me laugh hundred times a day. Hey and considering the fact that you do not like to celebrate your birthday at all, I love that you will do so, this year. Happy celebrating!

have a sunny weekend!

My sweets, tomorrow my love turns 30! I am excited for his birthday, probably more than he is. I do love other people's birthdays, don't know why. :) So this will be his weekend and we'll be doing all that stuff he loves like going for brunches, riding his babe, eating tons of cheese, watching (male, probably war-) movies, celebrating a little with friends and family and just enjoy ourselves by being silly. Wish you all a lovely and sun-filled weekend. Enjoy yourselves and go outside, springs here! :)
